The Douk Douk was born in 1929, in the French most famous cuttlery city.
The blade got an antique Turkish design, it's the son of a Bowie and a Scimitar. The steel is 1075, hot drop forged and integral hollow ground. The rockwell is HC52-53.
The handle is made of folded black steel. A spring is inserted inside the handle, and all is assembled by two pins: the first pin is at the blade axe, and the second is blocking the spring and attached to the steel loop for the lanyard.
On the handle is a Stamp! The Sorcerer called “Douk Douk.” He is a God of Doom in French Polynesia.
This knife has been made for the French Colony, the biggest success of Douk Douk was in the North African countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia . . .).
The secret of its success? Douk Douk was and is inexpensive, but the steel is premium quality.
The temper and the grind are so good, this knife is very easy to re-sharpen. The flat shape of the knife permits many ways to carry it. the Douk can fit easily in a pocket or a wallet, and can complete a medical or survival kit.
Douk Douk has been used as a weapon in Algeria, because of its concealability and because you can easily change it into a fixed blade:
With a hammer you can smash the handle close to the axe to get a fixed blade easy to hide in the lapel vest.
